Dameron-Dameron Family Association Page
An
unofficial
site relating to the Dameron-Damron Family Association

An organization studying the genealogy of the Dameron and Damron family of the United States of America.
The
purpose of The Dameron-Damron Family Association
is researching the history and ancestry of the family as
well as disbursing information through the family
newsletter. The Dameron-Damron Family Association is a
non profit organization with all dues and income above
the cost of publishing and distribution of the Family
newsletter going toward family research.
Most who carry the name, in
either spelling, descend from
Lawrence Dameron who
received a land grant in Northumberland County, Virginia, in 1652. Lawrence and his wife,
Dorothy, along with their children, were the first documented Damerons to come from
England to settle in Virginia. Lawrence (1615-1657) married Dorothy (?) (????-c1691) before
1644.
Children: Bartholomew, George, Thomas, Lawrence,
Dorothy
(Note: Most Dameron-Damron families in the United States descend
from Lawrence who apparently came from Suffolk County, England. There are some Dammerons who came
from Germany.)
2008
Dameron-Damron Family Association Reunion
Nashville,
Tennessee,
was
14-17 August
at
1008 19th Ave.
South,
Nashville, TN 37212
The
Dameron-Damron Family Association
reunion was attended by several members
of various lineages. Those who
arrived on Wednesday or Thursday visited
or went sightseeing around Nashville.
Friday evening several met at
Swett's Restaurant, a well-known
soul food establishment on Clifton
Avenue. The group was provided
space in a private area where they all
enjoyed the food and visiting.
Saturday morning the group gathered in
Laskey Hall of Scarritt-Bennett Center.
It was about 11 before we
were
given access to the meeting room.
Tables were set up for various displays
and computers. Members had brought
various records, books, photographs,
etc. Cindora Creasman asked each
person to identify themselves for the
video she was shooting of the meeting.
John P. Dameron spoke to the group.
Charles Chaney requested that those
present consider running for a position
on the DDFA board since there are three
vacancies.
Two people agreed. Charles also
reminded everyone that the newsletter
could use some photographs, anecdotes,
family traditions, and some articles.
The group was encouraged to take part in
the
Damron DNA Project (this includes
the variations of the name, Damron and
Dameron). Kathy Near gave a Power
Point presentation prepared by Cheri
Mello, group administrator of the Damron
DNA Project, about DNA testing.
Don Guthrie volunteered to demonstrate
how a DNA swab is performed. Of
course, there was much informal
discussion and just plain visiting among
the group.
The consensus was that next year's
reunion would be held in Northumberland
County, Virginia, near the area where
Lawrence Dameron received a land grant
in 1652. Details will be announced
when known. There was some
discussion about the possibility of a
bronze plaque may be erected in the
Dameron Marsh area.
DDFA
Board Vacancies
The
DDFA board has vacancies that must be filled soon.
This is a chance to take part in our quarter-century
old organization. Very few have expressed an
interest which is unfortunate if DDFA is to continue
to function efficiently.
Board
members should be able to "attend" a monthly online
meeting. (AOL's AIM is used for the
meetings. It is a free IM service permitting
the board to open a chat room for online meetings.)
At the moment, this meeting is on the second
Wednesday at 8:00 EST each month. However, the time
can be adjusted when necessary.
Board members should be able to participate in some
manner rather than simply joining the chat room
meeting. Essentially, the board is ultimately
responsible for the publication of the newsletter,
managing the finances, arranging an annual
meeting/reunion of the membership, and generally
keeping DDFA functioning and moving forward.
DDFA
members are interested in the board, please contact
a board members directly by clicking a board
member's name on the list of board members on the
membership page.
Note:
This site is NOT financed by the DDFA! It is a personal effort that must be accepted
as such. Therefore the DDFA should not carry the responsibility for its contents.
Thanks.--Charles C. Chaney. |
